El Segundo, Calif.- When Douglas Furniture moved into new corporate offices here late last year, the 130-year-old furniture producers took a decidedly unorthodox approach to selecting artwork. Instead of buying generic framed art, the company ran with an idea from Lenn Grabiner, principal of the marketing, design and public relations firm Grabiner/Hall. He suggested creating original artwork with the company's products. "Why not turn Douglas product-which is furniture- into art? Once the client was sold on the idea, the creative concept was born," Grabiner said.

A design team from the agency went to work, sorting through product photos to pick the ones that would transcend easily into pop-influenced art. The result was 10 original Warhol-like paintings showing sofas, chairs, and occasional tables in a variety of vibrant colors and creative angles. They were placed throughout the new office in high visibility areas including the lobby and conference rooms. "We wanted to reinforce Douglas' position as a quality resource to the furniture industry, and that it's evident in how they dress themselves", said Kande Hall, president of Grabiner/Hall.

Douglas Furniture has some distinctive art on the public walls as its corporate headquarters, thanks to its marketing and public relations firm, Grabiner/Hall. The agency created pop-influenced art using product photos of Douglas Furniture.
